Raw Material Surveys and Their Behavioral Implications in Highland Lesotho

چکیده
Abstract Archaeologists have long considered climate change a primary mechanism behind human behavioral adaptations. The Lesotho highlands’ Afromontane and climatically extreme environments offer unique opportunity to examine proposed correlations between topography, climate, behavior. Previous studies suggest that warmer temperatures allowed humans expand their diet breadth foraging range, whereas colder restricted resources in riverine corridors. These used faunal floral as proxies track changes forager mobility but did not consider how differential access stone affected behaviors. To account for this gap, we conducted survey knappable rocks around the Sehonghong rock shelter eastern Lesotho, recording materials present size shape modern environment. We compared results later Pleistocene (~ 22–11 ka cal. BP) lithic assemblages at better understand whether archaeological patterns match availability. Contrary previous hypotheses, find past peoples were limited exclusively during conditions. then flake-to-core noncortical-to-cortical flake ratios procurement patterns. remain constant up until Late Glacial, ca. 14 BP, when see an increase both ratios, suggesting increased movement of out Sehonghong. conclusions show resource are solely dependent on may be driven by more complicated causal mechanisms such interaction formation social networks across highlands beyond.

Pallets B Raw Material
We concentrate on a family of discrete event systems obtained from a simple modular design principle that include in a controlled way primitives to deal with concurrency, decisions, synchronization, blocking , and bulk movements of jobs. Due to the functional complexity of such systems, reliable throughput approximation algorithms must be deeply supported on a structure based decomposition tech...
متن کاملRaw material use and behavioral modernity: Howiesons Poort lithic foraging strategies.
In an important early attempt to apply behavioral ecological modeling to lithic resource use and the archaeological record, Ambrose and Lorenz (1990) investigated the problem of the Howiesons Poort sub-stage (HP) in the southern African Middle Stone Age (MSA). In that paper, Ambrose and Lorenz compared general mobility patterns (based on lithic raw material occurrences) to the general environme...
متن کاملAdaptive sampling in behavioral surveys.
Studies of populations such as drug users encounter difficulties because the members of the populations are rare, hidden, or hard to reach. Conventionally designed large-scale surveys detect relatively few members of the populations so that estimates of population characteristics have high uncertainty. Ethnographic studies, on the other hand, reach suitable numbers of individuals only through t...
متن کاملLignocellulose as raw material in fermentation processes
Lignocellulose in the form of forestry, agricultural, and agro-industrial wastes is accumulated in large quantities every year. These materials are mainly composed of three groups of polymers, namely cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Cellulose and hemicellulose are sugar rich fractions of interest for use in fermentation processes, since microorganisms may use the sugars for growth and prod...
